Fashion Identity Crisis

Image
I can't decide if I look more like  a) A French woman or b) An eccentric granny. Am I having a fashion identity crisis? I know I'm not the only one. Can you imagine a older French woman sitting around pondering the idea of dressing like a 20-something from the Midwest? I actually she think would have it worse off. (Don't dress like me lady, you can do better!) I guess what I'm getting at is that life doesn't come with a manual on how you should act and dress like at every age. Books and magazines are guides , but they are not the answer . It's a lot of fun to try out different styles and make things up. Because really, I'm really just making up this fashion stuff as I go along. Outfit details - Black dress, .25 cents (garage sale) - Tights, c/o We Love Colors - Houndstooth cape, from my aunt - Scarf, .25 cents (thrifted) - Pork pie hat, paid w/ GC (Asos.com) - Flats, $10 (Wal-Mart) - Lipstick, 911D by Wet'n'Wild

Do Over

Image
While I adore the look I wore on New Years Eve , if I could have a do over, I would choose this dazzling retro outfit. It's got mixed metals, an actual vintage shirt, and enough sequins to make a 1980s Joan Rivers weep. Unfortunately this outfit didn't get to see the glitz of the evening and spent it's time running errands with a heavy winter coat over it for errands. So glam, I know. It seems now that the holidays are all over, I have the urge to wear all my sequins. I never really wore them in December but now that it's January, I'm all for it. Maybe it has something to do with it being a shiny new year or something? Let's go with that! Outfit details - Vintage sequin top, $1.23 (thrifted) - Gray skirt, $2 (thrifted) - Tights, $5 (Wal-Mart) - Flats, $10 (Wal-Mart) - Necklace, from my aunt (Avon brand) - Lip color, Dark Wine by Wet'n'Wild

Christmas Colors

Image
Wearing red and green together is kind of an iffy combo, unless it's Christmas. Power to you if you want to wear those colors together in June, but you're just going to end up looking like December. With that in mind, I decided to take full advantage of power color clashing (and apparently pattern clashing) to create this nod to festive outfit. I wore it for some Saturday shopping and noticed that not a lot of people dress in the Christmas spirit. They mostly wear giant coats and have a painted on scowl. Luckily I had enough Christmas cheer for the grumpy folks and was able to make some people smile with my presence. (I think they were smiling at me, or maybe they were just happy about what they just bought??) I can't leave this post without talking about that house behind me in these photos. Doesn't it look like a postcard? I feel very lucky that they're my neighbors and I can just peek out my window and spy on it anytime I like. Outfit details - Shirt, skirt, and ...

Ice Ice Baby

Image
Well the weather outside is frightful, but inside the stores.. well it's still frightful. That tends to happen when everyone decides they need to shop the week before Christmas. Luckily I bought everything weeks ago and it's now wrapped up and nestled under our miniature fake purple tree. But I did venture out yesterday to every thrift & antique store in town trying to find some last minute treasures. Can't really say that I found exactly what I was looking for, but it'll do! If you're thinking this outfit doesn't exactly match up with winter weather, you'd be kind of right. The day was actually really nice and kind of warm, but then we got hit with an ice storm that shut the town down. I'm just glad I wasn't wearing a dress like this outside when that occurred! Outfit details - Dress c/o eShakti.com (old) - Denim top, $1.23 (thrifted) - Tights, $5 (Wal-Mart) - Flats, $10 (Wal-Mart) - Hat, paid w/ GC ( Asos.com ) - Necklace, from my sister - Re...

Scarlet Fever

Image
Barbies were pretty much the only toy I wanted to get as a kid on Christmas morning. But after spending the last week sorting through childhood Barbie stuff with my sister; I wouldn't mind never seeing them ever again. Who knew 2 little girls could accumulate so much stuff? I think it really got out of control after we started making money on a paper route and could afford to buy all the things for ourselves. Though I don't really see the point in owning a coconut scented Ken doll. Sometimes our younger selves make strange decisions! Luckily, my younger self from a couple weeks ago was spot on with this outfit. I'm very obsessed with the whole look. As much as I admire all of my Barbie clothes, I think my real life closet is way more fun because I actually get to wear the things. Barbie would never look as good in my clothes. But that is mostly because she's only 11 inches tall and would be swimming in them! ;) Outfit details - Crochet top, gift from my mom (Monroe ...

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink

Image
Fashion is a means of time travelling. I bet you never thought an old pair of jeans could transport you to a different time, eh? If clothes are vintage or vintage inspired, wearing them can make you remember back to a good time you wore them or imagine a time before you existed when someone was sporting the very same look you have on. I basically just described the premise of my blog title - which is cool because today is my 4th blogiversary! Unfortunately my look does not embody any of the description from above. But these pictures do take me back to a couple weeks ago when I actually wore this outfit and the weather was tolerable without a heavy coat & scarf. It's composed of mostly new-to-me and barely worn pieces. Plus this skirt makes me feel fierce. (Oh and sorry if you were expecting a lot more Mean Girls references in this post considering the title. Like 'fetch', I just couldn't make it happen.) Outfit details - Pink sweaterette, $1 (thrifted) - Floral top,...

Beauty and the Geek

Image
I'm not one to wear high heels and sweaters together, but when I do it looks something like this. When I stepped back from the mirror after getting dressed, all I could think of was Beauty and the Geek . Remember the now defunct show that Ashton Kutcher made in the early 00's? It was a pretty awful reality show... that I just couldn't get enough of. I'd say my outfit has a perfect balance of stereotypical geekiness with a lot of feminine thrown in. I'm also playing the role of nerd quite well as I just looked up book lights on the internet - so I will never have to decide if I should read in bed or just go to sleep. I also made a video while wearing this look and titled it "The Ultimate Boyfriend". Watch it below or on my official YouTube page . Outfit details - Sweater, $1 (thrifted) - Collared top, $2.29 (thrifted)  - Skirt, $2 (thrifted) - Tights, $2 (Shop-Ko) - Barbie shoe earrings, handmade ( currently for sale in my Etsy shop ) - Flats, $5 (thrifted)...

Vitamin C

Image
Does wearing orange lipstick count as taking Vitamin C? If so, then I'm going to kick this cold in the butt. I can't actually have most of the medicine needed to take care of a cold because of my stomach issues ; I've tried a couple cough drops and ended up nauseous in the end. I'll take a snotty nose over nausea any day! On Saturday, I pushed through feeling like death, put on clothes, and functioned like a regular member of society. When you look good, you feel good, right? No one will ever know that I've stuffed tissues up the sleeves of this fabulous floral blazer or that my foundation was discreetly covering a red face. Except you because I just told you on my blog. Hey, I'm not very good at keeping my own secrets! Outfit details - Dress, $7 (thrifted) - Floral blazer, $10 (thrifted) - Tights, $5 (Wal-Mart) - Flats, $10 (Wal-Mart) - Necklace, $1 ( Amazon.com ) - Hat, paid w/ GC ( Asos.com ) - Scarf, from my aunt - Lip color, Purty Persimmon by Wet'n...

Carving Memories

Image
While thrifting one day, my mom picked up what she thought was a dress and excitedly showed it to me. Turns out it was this romper and it fit like it was made for me! So to applaud my mother and to show her how thankful I am that she's in my life, I wore this little number for our turkey day. Our event was low key with food, games, fart jokes, and then a ton more games. A no fuss day is something I am totally thankful for! The only Black Friday shopping I'm doing is at Goodwill, but I'll totally enable others! An Old Store-y (my Etsy shop) is having a big sale all weekend! Use the code " FIFTYOFF " for 50% off your total purchase. It can be used on anything from scarves to my toys! Valid now thru Monday 12/2. Outfit details - Polka dot romper, $2 (thrifted) - Tights, $5 (Wal-Mart) - Flats, $10 (Wal-Mart) - Red lipstick, 001 by Kate for Rimmel London - Feather hair clip, handmade - Owl ring, from my aunt BOARD GAMES!!!
