Fashion Identity Crisis

Image
I can't decide if I look more like  a) A French woman or b) An eccentric granny. Am I having a fashion identity crisis? I know I'm not the only one. Can you imagine a older French woman sitting around pondering the idea of dressing like a 20-something from the Midwest? I actually she think would have it worse off. (Don't dress like me lady, you can do better!) I guess what I'm getting at is that life doesn't come with a manual on how you should act and dress like at every age. Books and magazines are guides , but they are not the answer . It's a lot of fun to try out different styles and make things up. Because really, I'm really just making up this fashion stuff as I go along. Christmas Colors

Image
Wearing red and green together is kind of an iffy combo, unless it's Christmas. Power to you if you want to wear those colors together in June, but you're just going to end up looking like December. With that in mind, I decided to take full advantage of power color clashing (and apparently pattern clashing) to create this nod to festive outfit. I wore it for some Saturday shopping and noticed that not a lot of people dress in the Christmas spirit. They mostly wear giant coats and have a painted on scowl. Luckily I had enough Christmas cheer for the grumpy folks and was able to make some people smile with my presence. (I think they were smiling at me, or maybe they were just happy about what they just bought??) I can't leave this post without talking about that house behind me in these photos. Doesn't it look like a postcard? I feel very lucky that they're my neighbors and I can just peek out my window and spy on it anytime I like. Outfit details - Shirt, skirt, and ...

Ice Ice Baby

Image
Well the weather outside is frightful, but inside the stores.. well it's still frightful. That tends to happen when everyone decides they need to shop the week before Christmas. Luckily I bought everything weeks ago and it's now wrapped up and nestled under our miniature fake purple tree. But I did venture out yesterday to every thrift & antique store in town trying to find some last minute treasures. Can't really say that I found exactly what I was looking for, but it'll do! If you're thinking this outfit doesn't exactly match up with winter weather, you'd be kind of right. The day was actually really nice and kind of warm, but then we got hit with an ice storm that shut the town down. I'm just glad I wasn't wearing a dress like this outside when that occurred! Outfit details - Dress c/o eShakti.com (old) - Denim top, $1.23 (thrifted) - Tights, $5 (Wal-Mart) - Flats, $10 (Wal-Mart) - Hat, paid w/ GC ( Asos.com ) - Necklace, from my sister - Re...

Scarlet Fever

Barbies were pretty much the only toy I wanted to get as a kid on Christmas morning. But after spending the last week sorting through childhood Barbie stuff with my sister; I wouldn't mind never seeing them ever again. Who knew 2 little girls could accumulate so much stuff? I think it really got out of control after we started making money on a paper route and could afford to buy all the things for ourselves. Though I don't really see the point in owning a coconut scented Ken doll. Sometimes our younger selves make strange decisions! Luckily, my younger self from a couple weeks ago was spot on with this outfit. I'm very obsessed with the whole look. As much as I admire all of my Barbie clothes, I think my real life closet is way more fun because I actually get to wear the things. Barbie would never look as good in my clothes. But that is mostly because she's only 11 inches tall and would be swimming in them! ;) Outfit details - Crochet top, gift from my mom (Monroe ...

Carving Memories

Image
While thrifting one day, my mom picked up what she thought was a dress and excitedly showed it to me. Turns out it was this romper and it fit like it was made for me! So to applaud my mother and to show her how thankful I am that she's in my life, I wore this little number for our turkey day. Our event was low key with food, games, fart jokes, and then a ton more games. A no fuss day is something I am totally thankful for! The only Black Friday shopping I'm doing is at Goodwill, but I'll totally enable others! An Old Store-y (my Etsy shop) is having a big sale all weekend! Use the code " FIFTYOFF " for 50% off your total purchase. It can be used on anything from scarves to my toys! Valid now thru Monday 12/2. Outfit details - Polka dot romper, $2 (thrifted) - Tights, $5 (Wal-Mart) - Flats, $10 (Wal-Mart) - Red lipstick, 001 by Kate for Rimmel London - Feather hair clip, handmade - Owl ring, from my aunt BOARD GAMES!!!

Reel Life

Image
This weekend I did something that millions of people around the world probably did - and it wasn't work, in case this blazer was throwing you off - I went and saw the Catching Fire movie at a theater! That's a pretty big deal considering I don't like watching movies and I have no idea what the Hunger Games are. I struggled through and tried to enjoy it as much as I could. It was kind of distracting when my sister and I sat in close proximity to two couples and one enjoyed a conversation throughout the entire movie. Who does that?? In other news, I wore this outfit weeks ago and I can't remember why, but it looks super cute and I'm impressed with myself for wearing a blazer despite being lifelong unemployed. You never know when I'll get chance to wear it for real life so I might as well style it for fun now! Outfit details - Floral shirt, $1 (thrifted) - Blazer, $1 (thrifted) - Jeggings, $4 (thrifted) - Jewelry, both from Dani - Booties, $15 (K-Mart, old) - Por...

Rock Another Day

Necessary things you need to get by in life: your wit, your sanity, and sometimes armor. You may not know it, but this outfit is armor. I know it's not the traditional kind with a breastplate and a helmet; it's just normal kind that people like me need everyday. I wore this look for thrifting and ended up in a crooked neighborhood, it made me so glad that I put on the toughest shirt I own that morning. (if an 80's hair band counts as tough) In some funny way, it was like my very own protection from the elements. I got by unharmed and basically unnoticed. Way to go, armor, you did your job well! I thrifted, I survived, and I lived to blog about it. (Um, can that be my new catchphrase?) Outfit details - Sweater, free (from my aunt) - Guns'n'Roses sweatshirt, $2 (thrifted) - Gingham top, free (garage sale) - Bodycon skirt, $2 (thrifted) - Tights, $5 (Wal-Mart) - Flats, $10 (Wal-Mart) - Red lipstick, 001 by Kate for Rimmel London
