Maryland, the state gubernatorial candidate and Obamacare point man, Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, boasted would be “the model” for implementing the Affordable Care Act, fell woefully short of its enrollment goals. According to data released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Maryland “enrolled” only 67, 757 resident in private health insurance plans between October 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014. This number falls far short of the revised goal of 150,000 newly insured O’Malley-Brown administration officials set for the now junked Maryland Health Benefit Exchange. The HHS report notes that the reported number enrolled in private insurance plans is “the cumulative number of individuals determined eligible to enroll in a plan through the Marketplace who have selected a plan…” the data does not reveal how many of those classified as enrolled have made payments.
