Girls trip

Image
The past few weeks have been pretty major, life changing.  I'm going to skip all the heavy stuff and come back to that another day, but today, its about a girls trip.  Reegan and I spent a weekend in DC with my sisters.  It was a great trip, we walked all over and missing naps every afternoon lead to a tired girl.   We flew in Friday morning and Brittany, the sister that lives in DC, took us to the zoo.  Free zoo within walking distance. Friday night Ashley joined us and we headed to Georgetown for dinner and then a river cruise of the monuments.  There was a great big fountain that Reegan kept running along the edge of... Until she suddenly became very brave and ran into it soaking herself.  Sorry, blurry pic but she was having so much fun and wouldn't stand still. Saturday morning we headed to the monuments.  It was a gorgeous day, not too humid like the day before.  Reegan took a little while to warm up and refused to participat...

Ainu Fight for Return of Ancestral Remains

A landmark case pits the indigenous people of Hokkaido against a local university holding the majority of a series of human remains of uncertain origins. Based on a yearlong survey, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology revealed earlier this year that the bones of over 1,600 Ainu are still being stored at 11 universities across the country. These remains were taken from grave sites primarily in Hokkaido, but also from Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands (both now part of Russia), between 1873 and 2011, for the purpose of carrying out studies on the skulls. At the center of the controversy is Hokkaido University, which is holding the majority of the remains — those of 1,027 individuals. A lawsuit has been filed against the university by a group of Ainu from the Kineusu kotan,* seeking to have their ancestor’s bones returned. [...] This is the first case where the Ainu people have argued for their aboriginal title to be recognized in a Japanese court, and also t...

Andre Norton's Quag Keep

Image
Stolen shamelessly from Blog of Holding , because I am lazy . Found a copy at a thrift store over the weekend. I only recognized it because there's a blog named after it that I read sometimes. The book cost all of a buck, so I figured what the hell and bought it. It wasn't until I did some Googling that I found out that Quag Keep is the first D&D novel and is set in the world of Greyhawk. Double neat-o.

Advertorial One of the things I've been worried about while I was pregnant was having to cab around with a baby in tow when Dashiel is out. It's just a lot more troublesome to not have your own car when you have to bring a pram and giant diaper bag with you everywhere you go, not to mention it isn't safe for baby to be in a taxi with no car seat! AND COE KEEPS RISING! It's so crazy expensive to buy a car nowadays! So I was SUPER delighted to announce that I've gotten one of the best sponsorships in the 10 years of my blogging career - a CAR!! My Nissan Sylphy and me!! WOOT!! Because you die of jealousy, I didn't get a free car per se, I have a year's usage of 3 different rental cars, courtesy of Downtown Car Rentals and DUO Rewards , the customer loyalty program for Tan Chong International. Which is just as awesome so I guess you can still die of jealousy. Haha ok I'm sorry but I'm just so happy with my new baby!! :DDD Here's some pictures of my...
