Pretty Posy FREE Quilt Block Tutorial

Hello all you quilty people!

Back on Thursday, I introduced you to the Pretty Posy which has been entered in the AccuQuilt block contest.  I encouraged my friends to vote for the Pretty Posy, giving them the chance to win DAILY PRIZE drawings.  The Pretty Posy exceeded the challenged limit of 200 votes and, as promised, I am sharing the Pretty Posy quilt block tutorial.

I contacted my friend Caroline of Sew Can She asking for her help to spread the news!

AND now I am upping the ante!  If the voters continue to support the Pretty Posy throughout the contest, and this block manages to win the contest, I will be giving FREE pdf quilt patterns for a full year to each and every one of those who follow the Sew Fresh Quilts blog by email!!!

This simple 9 patch block finishes at 9" square and can be used to make quilts of various sizes.  For my sample, I used 4 blocks made from Kona cotton solids, to make this cute mini quilt.

Pretty Posy Block Assembly Instructions

Step 1
Take the (4) - 1.5" squares in the colour of the Flower Petals and the (1) - 3.5" square for the Flower Center.  Place each 1.5" square on the corners of the Flower Center and sew a seam, shown in red, diagonally across each of the 1.5” squares. Trim the corners, allowing for ¼” seam. Press seams.

Step 2
Take your (4) - 3.5" Petal squares and (8) of the 1.5" Background squares. For each of the Petal squares, place (2) of the 1.5" square on two adjacent corners of each Petal square and sew a seam, shown in red, diagonally across each of the 1.5” squares. Trim the corners, allowing for ¼” seam. Press seams.

Step 3
Take your (2) - 4" Dark Green squares and (2) 4" Light Green squares.  Place each Light Green square onto each Dark Green square.  Draw a diagonal line, shown in black, and sew ¼” from the line, on each side of it, as shown in red. Cut along the diagonal line you drew. Press both the half square triangles open and trim them to 3.5” square.

Step 4
Take your (4) completed Leaf squares and (8) of the 1.5" Background squares. For each of the Leaf squares, place (2) of the 1.5" square on two opposite corners and sew a seam, shown in red, diagonally across each of the 1.5” squares. Trim the corners, allowing for ¼” seam. Press seams.

Step 5
Arrange the 9 patches as shown.  Sew the pieces into rows and sew the rows together to make the block.
